About Hannah
Expertise
I can answer questions concerning standard doctrines, scriptures, curiousities, Mormon culture and society. I will not respond to debates. I'm sorry, but there are some things that I simply will not answer, not because I don't want to, but there are some things that the LDS people do not discuss casually--it's only talked about within the temple. Though I am a member, I do not believe that anyone could convert anyone to a religion over something as impersonal as the internet. So I won't even try to.

Experience
I have been a member of the LDS church for 8 years. Though I'm still a young person, I can answer most things about the church.

Question
QUESTION: Do Mormans believe they can "earn" their own planets

ANSWER: Well, it sounds pretty funny when you put it that way, but essentially, yes.  We believe that, if worthy, we can live to be parents of our own spiritual children, which implies that they'll need a planet where they can live their earthly lives.  So, essentially, I guess you can definitely put it that way.

Would you like me to go into the juicy doctrinal details, or was that all you wanted? (I'd be happy to tell you everything I know, I just don't want to throw more information than you'd want at you. Let me know to what extent you'd like information on this).

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Thank you for responding.  Yes, I certainly am interested in knowing as much as possible on this subject.

Answer
I am so very sorry that I slacked off and didn't respond.  I didn't realize it until very recently.

Okay, so here goes: The Latter-day Saints (one of which I am), believe that God the Father is our father--figuratively and literally.  We're his spiritual children, begotten of his wife, Heavenly Mother (that's all we know about her--that she exists).  Our ultimate goal is to return to our Father.  It is also promised that if we are worthy and live a worthy marriage (if a person never finds the person to marry, they can marry later, but the chance isn't denied) they can have spiritual children.  Yes, this does mean that man and woman must be married.  That's the extent of the whole myths about women needing their husbands permission to get into heaven and...good gracious I don't even know how people believe some of the myths.

Anyways, just as we had to come to this earth to gain our right to be in the prescence of someone so pure (Heavenly Father), if we are pure enough to be spiritual parents and gain the perfected state of spiritual parenthood, our children must follow the journey that we have followed.  So, we'd need our "own" planet, our "own" plan for our children, and our "own" everything.
