AboutMichael Kelley Expertise For a different viewpoint on Mormonism for your questions, try me. I am a staunch believer in the Book of Mormon and belong to another church (the Church of Christ)that is set up identically to the Biblical church. If there are things about traditional Mormonism that trouble you or you have questions about, just ask and you might find the answers from the Book of Mormon to be quite surprising. I have been studying the scriptures diligently for 16 years under the school of hard knocks... I may not have all of the answers but will sure go find them if I don`t. I`m strongest on Biblical and Book of Mormon doctrines, and am also somewhat familiar with Mormon history and archaeology.
Question Dear Michael, You said you are not a member of the LDS Church, but rather of the Church of Christ, which also believes in the Book of Mormon. There are a number of different churches called the Church of Christ. Could you please tell us more about your church? Perhaps you could also give the web address of your church's main page so we could read about it there. Thank you and best wishes.
1. We believe in faith in God and His only Begotten Son Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost.
2. We believe in the Bible (King James Version) and the Book of Mormon as scripture.
3. We believe in repentence of sins and making a covenant to serve God by baptism by immersion.
4. We believe in the reception of the gift of the Holy Ghost by laying of hands as was done by the Apostles in Acts.
5. Our ministry is set up as is in the scriptures with Jesus Christ as the head, 12 Apostles as overseers, Elders, Priests and Teachers.
6. We believe the gifts of the spirit still exist today such as healings, prophecy, revelation, tongues etc. (but are not charismatic).
7. We believe in the intercessory role of Jesus Christ... that only through His blood and faith on His name can we have hope for salvation, that it is still by grace we are saved after all we do.
8. We believe in an unchanging God, who does not vary from His perfect state, who does not change or even have a shadow of variableness.
9. We believe we must repent of our sins and continue in repentence and endure to the end doing our best to keep the commandments of God.
Our church is more similar in many ways to a conservative Bible based church than the LDS Utah church. I have even debated with many Evangelicals and they could find nothing objectionable with the Book of Mormon itself... only with Joseph Smith or the LDS Mormons... which objections I often agreed with.
Feel free to check out the Church of Christ website. If you have any questions I will be happy to reply or if you are seriously investigating I can put you in contact with one of our missionaries or Apostles.
