AboutMichael Kelley Expertise For a different viewpoint on Mormonism for your questions, try me. I am a staunch believer in the Book of Mormon and belong to another church (the Church of Christ)that is set up identically to the Biblical church. If there are things about traditional Mormonism that trouble you or you have questions about, just ask and you might find the answers from the Book of Mormon to be quite surprising. I have been studying the scriptures diligently for 16 years under the school of hard knocks... I may not have all of the answers but will sure go find them if I don`t. I`m strongest on Biblical and Book of Mormon doctrines, and am also somewhat familiar with Mormon history and archaeology.
I am currently writing a book on global warming. The basic premise of my book is everybody can make adifference. I have tried to get an answer to my question. Does the Morman Church LDS have an offical stand or statement referencing global warming. I have asked all the major denominations and have received a response.
thank you dave
Answer Hi Dave,
I won't be able to answer your question specifically because I left the Utah LDS Mormon church in 1983 and joined the original Church of Christ that believes in the Book of Mormon. I am not sure what their stand on the subject is or if they even have one, you may wish to ask one of the other Experts on this server who are members, they might know. I know the Church of Christ has no stand on the subject.
For myself... not representing any church, I have mixed feelings on the subject. I know of so many scientific theories that have later proven to be false or not quite the truth, and how hard it is to get them to correct their errors. Some aspects of global warming seem to be true, other aspects not, such as rising sea levels, which has not happened. I know they banned certain freon types because of ozone depletion, yet the newer freons are much much worse for global warming... it goes on and on.
I don't mind making a difference... but not using false or misguided science. As far as I can see... the only viable solution to reducing global warming and reducing our dependence on foriegn oil is to largely depend on nuclear energy for electricity, and strongly promote plug-in hybrid cars. Hybrid cars are great for long trips using gas, and if they had the plug in option they can run almost exclusively on electricity only for local driving. I know the technology exists... I even worked at a factory that made batteries that would be perfect for this use. The problem is the higher costs, and the misguided environmentalists who oppose nuclear energy at all costs. They don't to admit that many other nations rely primarily on nuclear energy and do so safely. I've worked at a breeder reactor in Idaho and there couldn't have been a safer place to work.
Anyway, that's my 2 cents on global warming, hope this helps.
