For a different viewpoint on Mormonism for your questions, try me. I am a staunch believer in the Book of Mormon and belong to another church (the Church of Christ)that is set up identically to the Biblical church. If there are things about traditional Mormonism that trouble you or you have questions about, just ask and you might find the answers from the Book of Mormon to be quite surprising. I have been studying the scriptures diligently for 16 years under the school of hard knocks... I may not have all of the answers but will sure go find them if I don`t. I`m strongest on Biblical and Book of Mormon doctrines, and am also somewhat familiar with Mormon history and archaeology.

Question
I want to know more about some of the more personal blessings?
Do the mormans beleive that each and everyone of us is a god? or that we have the potentail to be one?

Answer
Hi Rexford,
I will be happy to answer your questions, please note I am ex-LDS and belong to the original Church of Christ that believes in the Book of Mormon.

In answer to your questions.... the LDS "Mormon" Utah faction does believe in certain doctrines they refer to as "blessings" that they believe can exalt a man to God like status. They believe that being faithfully attending, tithe paying members who are married for life and eternity (called Celestial Marriage or Temple Sealing) and remain faithful shall inherit the highest degree of glory in the 3rd glory (highest). They shall be as Gods and will be Heavenly Fathers and Heavenly Mothers creating their own spirit children to populate their own planets. They belive that Jesus Christ was once a mere human and through Celestial Marriage gained Godlike status and evolved into a God.

That is the belief of the Utah Mormons. Unfortunately neither Bible nor Book of Mormon once ever teaches this! Both books even strongly teach AGAINST this doctrine. Both books repeatedly teach that there is only ONE God, who is utterly unchangeable, who was and always has been perfect and changeless... and that if he were to change he would cease to be God. This strongly opposes a Jesus who evolved to Godlike status. Jesus plain states in the Bible that the righteous WORTHY shall NOT be married in the afterlife, but be as angels in heaven.

There are many other LDS Utah beliefs that are also strongly opposed by the Book of Mormon such as the past practice of polygamy, the past practice of racial discimination, the current practices of Celestial Marriage, Baptism for the Dead, a Changing God, the 1st Presidency and many other lesser doctrines.

You see, the very reason why I left the Utah faction is BECAUSE I believe in the Book of Mormon. The Utah people profess the book, but only follow parts of it, and reject others, and instead follow the dictates of those whom they believe are latter day "prophets". Fortunately there are many factions that left the early church and to the best of their understanding are following the true teachings of the Bible and Book of Mormon.

If you like I can provide numerous quotes from the Bible and Book of Mormon  that back up everything I have written. I like to always say... don't trust what I say... trust the teachings and examples of Jesus Christ... He is the author of our faith and will be the judge at the judgment day.

God Bless,
Mike
