AboutDavid Gross Expertise If you are truly seeking answers or information I will do my best to answer questions related to any aspect of the LDS Church.
Experience I have been a member of the church for 27+ years after being raised as a not very active Reform Jew.
I am LDS. But, have come up with a question that I don't know the
answer to. I know that the Title page, was written on the golden plates by
Mormon and Moroni and that Joseph Smith translated this from the
plates. But, who wrote the page after the title page, the "Introduction".
From doing some searching on the internet the best I have come up with
is, "Church leaders". If this is correct, I am trying to find out which
specific church leaders wrote the introduction to the book of Mormon?
Thanks for your help. If you find the answer would you please provide
reference(s) as to where you found the answer to my question.
Answer The following is an article that explains the "official" answer to your question. Bruce T. Harper, “The Church Publishes a New Triple Combination,” Ensign, Oct. 1981, page 9 excerpted as follows: "As always, inspired direction came from the Scriptures Publication Committee of the Quorum of the Twelve: Elder Thomas S. Monson, chairman, Elder Boyd K. Packer, and Elder Bruce R. McConkie, with Brother W. James Mortimer serving as executive secretary."
Unofficially, I can tell you with absolute certainty that Bruce R McConkie wrote the "Introduction" but I do not think that I should reveal my source because that information has not to my knowledge been published. Church leaders did not and probably still do not want to give credit to any one individual. The "Introduction" was approved by the committee.
