AboutMichael Kelley Expertise For a different viewpoint on Mormonism for your questions, try me. I am a staunch believer in the Book of Mormon and belong to another church (the Church of Christ)that is set up identically to the Biblical church. If there are things about traditional Mormonism that trouble you or you have questions about, just ask and you might find the answers from the Book of Mormon to be quite surprising. I have been studying the scriptures diligently for 16 years under the school of hard knocks... I may not have all of the answers but will sure go find them if I don`t. I`m strongest on Biblical and Book of Mormon doctrines, and am also somewhat familiar with Mormon history and archaeology.
Question Is it true and Mormans believe in a mother God and that they have special under garments?
Answer Hi Margaret,
I will be happy to answer your questions. Please note I am ex-LDS and belong to the original Church of Christ that believes in the Book of Mormon.
Yes, the Utah LDS Mormon church believes in a "Heavenly Mother". This comes from their doctrine of Celestial Marriage (also known as Temple Sealings). They believe when a faithful couple are married in their temples for "time and eternity" they are sealed and granted the 3rd level of the Celestial glory. They believe you will become a Heavely Father and Heavenly Mother and be as Gods populating your own world. They believe Jesus was once a mere human as we are and by Celestial Marriage became a God.
However these beliefs are strongly opposed by both the Bible and Book of Mormon. In the Bible Jesus teaches that the WORTHY shall not be married in the next life, but be as angels of God. In the Book of Mormon it repeatedly teaches there is only One God who is unchangeable and who has always existed in His perfect and eternal state. Nowhere in the Book of Mormon is this doctrine ever taught or alluded to.
Personally I believe this doctrine was brought in to the early church to seduce the people in accepting the abominable practice of polygamy. The Book of Mormon terms the practice of polygamy a whoredom and abomination before God, no excuses, no exceptions (cites available). They believed that if people did not accept polygamy they could not "seal" everyone and thus would be damned.
One of the very reasons why I left the Utah faction is because I believe in the Book of Mormon. The Utah faction professes it but only follows parts of it, and ignores other parts that condemn many of their practices.
As part of the Utah Temple rites of Celestial Marriage and Baptism for the Dead (another false doctrine) they wear sacred undergarments (not all wear them, many do). This practice and other false practices mostly came from the secret society of the Masons and their rites. The Book of Mormon expressly forbids secret societies and their works.
Feel free to ask other questions if you like, I will be happy to answer them or provide specific scripture quotes to back up everything I have written. I like to always say... don't trust what I say... trust the teachings and examples of Jesus. There are no examples of Jesus ever having many wives or being sealed in a temple marriage.
