Law & Order - actors

Expert: Brian Webber - 10/10/2007

Question
QUESTION: I keep seeing the same actors on Law and Order, playing different roles.  Sometimes this gets a little confusing, since I remember them as other characters.  I can't believe there aren't enough actors out there to play the new parts.  Why do they do this?

ANSWER: Law & Order is filmed in New York. The New York pool of actors is smaller but also close knit than the L.A. pool. Any show that films on the East Coast will sahre actors with shows that film on the East Coast, which is why you saw a lot of L&O actors show up on Oz, or Homicide.

---------- FOLLOW-UP ----------

QUESTION: Still, you don't think there are plenty of other actors in NYC?  These actors must have really impressed the people who make the shows.  I think that if I was an actor in NYC I would be upset to see the same people over and over.  Thanks for the answer, by the way.

Answer
There are, but there are issues of availability. Also, as I said, the NYC acting community is a pretty tight knit group. If you read tabloids that like to cover star feuds almost never do you hear of one stemming from the NYC community. It's mainly because most of them have a background in theatre, and in theatre, you have to learn teamwork or the show is going to tank. There's no room for ego.
