About Erik Smith
Expertise
I am mostly knowledgeable about the "mothership" ("Law & Order") and "Law & Order: Criminal Intent." I can answer questions about "L&O: Special Victims Unit" as well, but "Criminal Intent" is probably the show where my knowledge is the strongest

Experience
I've watched "Law & Order" since 1991. I've watched all the "L&O: SVU" and "L&O: Criminal Intent" re-runs on USA Network and Bravo. I own "Law & Order: Criminal Intent - The Complete Third Season (2003-2004)" on DVD.

Law & Order - comparisons to actual legal system

Expert: Erik Smith - 4/10/2007

Question
hello, I was wondering if you could provide me with some differences between "Law and Order" and the actual judicial system. Thanks!

Answer
Hi Jillian,

There are quite a few differences. My friend Karen can probably answer the question better than I, so I'll ask her and get back to you. I can tell you that a) license is taken because of time constraints and dramatic effect; b) the district attorneys probably aren't as attractive in real life. :) The most authentic police show is probably "The Wire" on HBO.

I will get back to you with more information.

Sincerely,
Erik
