Law School - low lsat high gpa

Expert: Sally A. Kane - 2/25/2008

Question
I am planning on attending law school this fall semester and I am getting everything ready to apply, my gpa is 3.7 but my lsat was only 142. Do I have descent chances of getting into a good law school or would it be better for me to retake the lsat in june? I live in Northeastern Ohio so the schools I am looking at are Akron, Celeveland State, and ase Western. I have a lot of extracurriculars and work/internship experience and I have worked full time all 4 years of college.

Answer
Dear Christina,

I would suggest retaking the LSAT in June to improve your score.  Fourth-tier law schools usually want an LSAT score of at least 150 and, while your GPA is strong, it may not be high enough to compensate for your LSAT results, especially if you did not attend a top undergraduate institution.  Moreover, you might not need to settle for a fourth-tier school if you improve your score significantly – a strong LSAT score combined with your GPA, extracurricular activities and work experience may grant you admission to a higher -ranking school.

Good luck!
