Question What are the best non-ABA schools here in southern California?
Answer Hi Neda,
A number of law schools operate without the approval of the American Bar Association (ABA) and each state has its own bar association that administers the bar exam. California has the largest and most powerful state bar in the country. The California Bar Association (CBA) issues accreditation to schools not accredited by the ABA. Students who graduate from CBA-approved law schools are eligible to sit for the bar.
Empire Law School is a CBA-approved law school and boasts one of the highest pass rates for California accredited law schools. Empire was ranked #2 in the state with respect to passage rates on the February 2004 exam.
Keep in mind that attending a non-ABA law school in California will restrict your practice to the state of California and may significantly limit your post-law school employment opportunities. If your goal is to work at a large national law firm then an ABA-approved law school is your best choice.
