PLEASE HELP,
I JUST MOVE TO THIS NEW HOME, THE GRASS LAWN LOOKS ALL GREEN AND LOOKS GOOD, BUT I HAVE  FEW 3FT AREAS  NEAR THE  EDGE OF THE GRASS LINE  THE GRASS IS DEAD AND I HAVE THESE PURPLE ROOTS GROWING AND THREE LEAF COVERS A REALLY DEAD SPOT.
WEEDS IN THE LAWN.
I THINK THE OTHER PEOPLE THAT LIVED HERE HAD A SMALL DOG , THAT COULD OF CAUSE SOME OF THIS PROBLEM I DON'T KNOW.
ROB
PLEASE HELP ME

Answer
Since we do not know what caused the grass to die in these areas, check that the sprinkler system is covering the whole lawn adequately. If it is, then cut out the bad spots to a depth of about 6 inches. If you do not encounter any harmful insects, replace with about 3 inches of clean topsoil and sod over. Water in and water the new sod by hand to prevent it from drying out and to avoid overwatering the rest of the lawn.
