Lawns - lawn chemical error

Expert: Ronald B Persaud - 6/23/2009

Question
My boyfriend had new lawn planted earlier this year. He applied Sta Green Weed n Feed 2 weeks ago. The bottle covers 7500 sq ft. He applied the whole bottle to 700 sq ft. The lawn is now turning yellow. What can he do to repair the damage or offset the chemical?

Answer
I sincerely hope that it is not a "Floratam" lawn because the label prohibits the use of this product on such a lawn. Add to that, ten times the the recommended dose was used and things are beginning to look really bad. My best suggestion is to water a little bit more than is recommended in your area. Each time, apply just enough water to prevent runoff into the storm water system. Do not apply any chemical to the lawn until you are quite sure that it has fully recovered.
