Lawns - permanently kill driveway vegetation

Expert: C. J. Brown - 6/22/2009

Question
I'm looking for a DIY (ie: inexpensive) way to permanently kill all the weeds, grass, tumble weeds, goat heads, etc. growing in my extensive gravel driveway.  I've tried Round Up, etc. but the weeds just grow back in a couple weeks to months.  I've seen the state use a layer of lime when building roads, but since the driveway is already built, I don't know how I would keep the lime from blowing away or into the lawn and killing my yard, too.  Being on a fixed income, I can't afford a major contracting project, but I'm sure sick of weeding all the time!

Answer
Hi Pete,

Sorry my friend, there's just no permanent solution. Weeds will always be trying to re-invade. You just need to make it part of your "to do" list every month or two. My own experience is that it is not too difficult if you just make it a point to spray the new weeds every week or so.

Hang in there my friend. Sorry I could be a better help!
