Question
HELLO - CAN I REALISTICALLY PLANT BERMUDA DURING THE JULY HEAT OF PHOENIX?  WE SHOULD HIT 114 DEGREES BY END OF THIS WEEK.  IF I CAN WHAT PRECAUTIONS SHOULD I TAKE & ESPECIALLY HOW DO I KEEP NUMEROUS TYPES OF BIRDS FROM EATING ALL THE SEED?
THANKS, DAC

Answer
I do not think that temperature is a serious concern just as long as the night temp. does not go below 75. As for the birds, this is what I hear works.
1. Sow seed late in the evening (after the birds have gone home).
2. Water in well so that the seeds might be unpalatable by next day.
3. Color the seeds blue if you can; apparently birds do not like this.
