Lawns - kill grass

Expert: Ronald B Persaud - 9/23/2009

Question
I don't have alot of money to spend on herbicides to kill grass.  I was wondering if there is a natural way or cheaper way to kill the grass on my property around the fence lines.  I have 3 acres of fence line.
thanks,

Answer
The length of fence lines that you have depends upon the shape of the land rather than the area. An exact square will have the shortest fence line. A 10' x 10' area (100 sqft.) will have a fence line of 40 ft. A 50' x 2' area (the same 100 sqft.) will have a fence line of 104 ft.
But to answer your question: if you have a string trimmer, you can keep the fence line quite neatly trimmed and pleasing to look at. Alternatively, you can use glyphosate which will do a good job and be environmentally safe but will look unsightly (dead vegetation) a lot of the time.
