Question Hi Chris, Can you tell me if there is a bootleg available of the Boston Tea Party shows from 1969. Just heard recently that there were but have no idea if they exist or how someone could obtain them. Thanks much for any help and your site!!
Answer Hi, this is Mike, but yes there are several boots out there for the Boston '69 shows, the most famous one being from the 26th.
See details below for information about the two dates that had recordings - bear in mind those recordings were from the audience, but interesting documents.
You have two options for obtaining these shows. The cheaper and quicker option might be to join up with a torrent site like tapecity.org - other people share their recordings and though it might take a little time to download, they are free.
Another option would be to Google terms like "boston tea party" and "led zeppelin" and see what collectors out there might be selling such bootlegs. Occasionally people have them. Good luck in your searches! - Mike
JANUARY 23 - BOSTON TEA PARTY, BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS (concert marred by Page's guitar problems) (THURSDAY, 2 SHOWS)
Support from The Raven.
Set 1 Includes: Band Announcements, The Train Kept A Rollin' [ 2:56 ], I Can't Quit You Baby [ 5:31 ], As Long As I Have You (<< Fresh Garbage, Shake..) [ 11:50 ], Dazed And Confused [ 11:15 ], You Shook Me [ 8:30 ] [ supposed to be played: How Many More Times (<< The Hunter..) ].
Source: Incomplete good audience recording. Near 48 minutes.
Details: The tape is very clear with all instruments evenly balanced for the most part. There is what sounds like a damaged section of tape during I Can't Quit You Baby but it recovers quickly.
Bootleg LP Reference(s): Boston Tea Party (A&BRD&C)
Bootleg CD Reference(s): Boston After Dark (Empress Valley Supreme Disc), Complete Boston Tea Party (ARMS), & Whisky And Tea Party (Ocean Recording Corporation)
Comments: This is all that is known to exist from this show. The band sunds really strong and Robert's voice is in its most primitive and powerful stage. Dazed And Confused is a very powerful and excting version. I only hope the rest of this great show comes out someday! The band stopped after The Train Kept A Rollin' because Jimmy Page had troubles with his guitar. "It's great to be in Boston. According to Jimmy it's one of the best places he's even played! I think, right now, in the shops there's an album called Led Zeppelin. I don't know whether it's out here yet. Is it out? You see, in one place it comes out one day and another place three weeks later. On this album we've tried to do a cross section of everything we've got into and we've included some blues because that's where it all comes from!" said Plant while Jimmy was preparing a guitar string.

Set 2 Includes: White Summer (<< Black Mountain Side..) 8:53 ], Babe I'm Gonna Leave You [ 7:07 ], [ tape cut - some chatter missing ], Pat's Delight [ 13:46 ], How Many More Times (<< For Your Love, Over Under Sideways Down..) [ 14:51 - end cut ].
Source: Incomplete good to very good audience recording. Near 92 minutes.
Details: The tape is very clear with Page in front and Bonham and Plant in the back. The drums sound a bit thin at times but overall it is a great recording.
Bootleg LP Reference(s): Killing Floor (Trade Mark Of Quality)
Bootleg CD Reference(s): Fillmore 69 (House Of Elrond), Fillmore East Vol. 1&2 (Mud Dogs), Killing Floor (Cobra Standard Series), A Sudden Attack Boston (Shout To The Top), Tight But Loose (Tarantura), Whisky And Tea Party (Ocean Recording Corporation), & Whole Lotta For Your Love (Pirate Records)
Comments: An amazing show ... this could be quite possibly one of the the best Led Zeppelin concert from 1969. The sound is vibrant and crisp and the playing is amazing. Jimmy's soloing throughout is nothing short of breathtaking and Jones' thundering bass and Bonham's amazing drums only add to it, as does Robert's crystalline and wonderful voice. An incredible show ... one of the very best! Some sources reports that another set of rock 'n' roll medleys was performed but a big care must be taken with these statements.
