Led Zeppelin - Led Zeppelin autographed guitar

Expert: Mike Caldwell - 6/14/2008

Question
Hello,

I am thinking about purchasing an autographed guitar by led zep (no bonham).  However it is on ebay and I am a bit skeptical even though it comes with 2 COA's (anything can be made right?).  Would you mind telling me what you think regarding the authenticity?   The JPJ's signature just looks off to me compared to most other examples I have seen.

Thank you very much
John

Answer
Hi John
I think you're on the right track here.  I looked at the autographs, and the only one that seemed "normal" was Plant's.  Jones' autograph is far "loopier" and nothing like the one on that guitar, and the Page autograph is the worst of them all.  You're right, COA's are easy to create, in a sense.  A person can (and would) get one member's autograph at a solo appearance, then fabricate the other members' autographs for sake of increased value.  True COAs usually require a photo of the person actually signing the article, and I don't see that happening here.  Pass.
