Question Film from Led Zeppelin Pontiac 1977, Pictures show a filming crew, Some have
claimed to to have this film, or have seen this, does it really exist?
Answer Hi Roger
Yes, it definitely exists. Any time an affair was big enough to require a big screen (Earls Court, Dome shows, Knebworth, etc), they recorded the camera work (i.e. what was shown on the screen) to video tape. This was not always just for nostalgia, but also for Peter Grant to review and critique what was shown on the big screen - quality control, in a sense.
At the present time, no footage of the Silverdome show has been known (at least to me) to have made it out to the public. Anyone outside the inner circle of the band who might have claimed to see footage from this show were probably mistaking it for the Seattle Kingdome footage. I've seen some of the Seattle '77 footage mislabelled (intentionally or accidentally) as Pontiac material.
I'm sure it's locked away in the archives, and will likely see the light of day eventually... but nobody I know has seen any legitimate pro-shot footage from the Silverdome...yet.
