About Chris M. Zangara
Expertise
I`m not only a Zeppelin collector but I have been collecting Zeppelin - and Page/Plant music & information for over 20 years. I am truly a lover of Page/Plant music in & out of Zeppelin simply because of the honesty & integrity of it all. - I have been studying them for as long as I have been listening to Rock/Blues Music. I look forward to any question and will answer the very best I can - as above all - I am just a fan like you!

Led Zeppelin - attendance records

Expert: Chris M. Zangara - 7/10/2009

Question
Has anyone after led zeppeloin beat the attendance record of 56,000 people or 70,000?

Answer
It was 76,000.   I don't think that record has been beat, although there are some Rolling Stones fans that may beg to differ.  And keep in mind that, and this IS fact, most of the 200K who came out for the Knebworth Festival in August 1979 were there for Led Zeppelin.  Take half that number and you're still left with 100K.

Folks wanted to see the revamped Led Zep and Robert Plant after the tragedy of losing his son, etc..

To say that the concert festival attendance for Knebworth 79 would have still been the same if Led Zeppelin were not on the bill?...yeah....right.  The festival was promoted by Freddie Bannister with Zeppelin as the Headlining Act.  They were saved for last and STILL played for almost 3 hours each week on the 4th and 11th.  To me, THAT is where they broke their concert attendance record.

Hope this helped,

Chris.
