Led Zeppelin - Peter Grant

Expert: Chris M. Zangara - 6/26/2006

Question
Hi Chris. It's me again. This time I was just curious as to what's happened to Peter Grant since Led Zeppelin's disbandment.

Answer
Hey Jennifer.

Peter Grant had a fatal heart attack on November 21, 1995, while driving home. He was buried on December 4, 1995, the 15th anniversary of Led Zeppelin's break up, coincidentally.

Grant had suffered from sever depression since his divorce from his beloved wife, the tragic circumstances involving Zeppelin from 76 to 80, the death of Bonham, etc.  All of this happening within the same time frame.

After Zeppelin's demise, Grant locked himself away from the public.  Inundated with offers from other bands ... he flatly refused.  He was indeed the 5th member of Zeppelin.  Grants passion for Zeppelin's memory and well being was matched only by the band's creator, Jimmy Page.

The last time I saw Peter, was in 1991.  "The YARDBIRDS" official video documentary was being filmed.  He literally came out of hiding to be a part of this. He was very disappointed at the terrible performances of Zeppelin's "reunions" at Live Aid and Atlantic 88.  Grant was very ill, and having lost a ton of weight...looking very thin and fragile.. He agreed to be interviewed for the final cut of this great documentary on YARDBIRDS.

Upon Grant's death, ROLLING STONE magazine, as is their nature, gave Zeppelin, and Grant, the shaft.

Peter Grant changed the way musicians were treated.  He made sure the ARTIST got the brunt of the money earned. Peter Grant was LOYAL TO HIS BAND!  He is a legend among legends.. And what did he get from the disgraceful RAG known as ROLLING STONE magazine?...........A small paragraph in the corner of a page -- announcing his death ... that was all.

Grant should have had an entire ISSUE devoted to him, instead he got a small, all but forgotten 'blurb.'  Once again, ROLLING STONE magazine disgraces the greatest manager of the greatest band of all time.  Only to backfire in a whirlwind of backlash, well deserved I might add.  I cannot begin to tell you how disgusted I was, and still am at this toilet paper of a magazine called ROLLING STONE.  Disgraceful is an understatement!

Go to any bookstore, or online at sites like Amazon.com and purchase the wonderful biography; "Peter Grant: The Man Who Led Zeppelin!" - - it's well worth it!

Hope this helped!

Chris.
