I`m not only a Zeppelin collector but I have been collecting Zeppelin - and Page/Plant music & information for over 20 years. I am truly a lover of Page/Plant music in & out of Zeppelin simply because of the honesty & integrity of it all. - I have been studying them for as long as I have been listening to Rock/Blues Music. I look forward to any question and will answer the very best I can - as above all - I am just a fan like you!

Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven

Expert: Chris M. Zangara - 3/27/2006

Question
What year did Zeppelin put out Stairway to Heaven?

Answer
Hi Kathie,

'Stairway to Heaven' was released on the band's 4th Album in 1971. It was first performed in front of a live audience on March 5, 1971 at Belfast Ulster Hall.

Although it was never released as a single, it still became, and still is the world's most requested song on radio from any music genre (rock or otherwise).

The simple innocence & mystery of the lyrics - melding into intensely powerful ending, 'Stairway To Heaven' has both represented and overshadowed Led Zeppelin's incredible variety of musical moments.

Besides the performance itself, the greatest impact to the listener during 'Stairway To Heaven' is that ethereal feeling of awe & wonder; especially when hearing it for the first time (all the while trying to comprehend that this is the same band who wrote 'Dazed & Confused' & 'Traveling Riverside Blues' - respectively).

There may be stronger performances in the Zeppelin catalog of music, but if it must be 'Stairway To Heaven' that strikes that chord in people to listen to all things Zeppelin, than the song's impact is as relevant today as any force on Earth.

Hope this helped!

Chris.
