Question
Is Obama legal to become president?  There are many articles being circulated stating that he is not because of his parentage.  Did his mother live the required amount of time in the US?  Snopes has nothing about this.  I know you can settle this once and for all.  Thank you.

Answer
Hi Julie,

Barak Obama was born in the US (Hawaii) and therefore is a natural born US citizen.  Even if he had been born outside the US, his mother (who was born in Kansas) was a citizen, which also automatically makes him a natural born US citizen.  His father was not a US citizen, but of course there is nothing that requires a president's father to be a US citizen.

I hope this helps!
- Mike
