Question how many years does a senator have to serve to receive a pension? will Obama receive 2 pensions - senator and president!
Answer Hi Carol,
Senators and Congressmen must serve at least 5 years in Congress (and make contributions to the pension system during that time) to be eligible for a pension at retirement age. Since Pres. Obama did not serve five years, he is not eligible for a Congressional Pension.
