Legislation, Presidential & Congressional Politics - Founding Fathers?

Question
Hello,
I am doing a report for my government/history class and I need to get peoples views on three questions. I've asked some poeple but it seems most of them don't know what their talking about so I was hoping you would be able to ansewr these for me.

Which of the Founders you believe made the most significant impact on shaping our government?
What contributions did this individual make in the creation of our government?
Why were these contributions so significant?

Like I said everyone I've asked hasn't really been able to give me a very good answer so I was hoping you would know what your talking about.
Thanks for your time,

Answer
Hi Abby,

While the process which developed into the US government was certainly a collaborative effort, I would argue that George Washington probably had the greatest impact on the development of the new nation.  First, it was Washington's leadership during the war which helped to lead the US to Independence.  Second, it was his faith in the Republic which allowed him to prevent a military takeover on Congress at the end of the war.  Third, it was his agreement to attend and chair the Constitutional Convention which gave it the credibility it needed to be ratified.  Fourth, his eight years as President set many of the precedents that helped develop the new government.

I hope this helps!
- Mike
