Question Hi Harry,
In the US presidential election, there seems to be two divisions(?) of elections: one is electorial and the other one is popular. Right now on CNN, experts are saying that no other presidents have won such high pupular votes in past (Bush: 51%, Kerry 48% in popular vote). Would you mind explaining the two divisions of the election system in the US presidential election?
Thanks.

Answer And hello to you. I'll give you the potted version for the time being but if you like the full version (with whistles and bangs) then do feel free to e-mail me at harry_hayfield@beeb.net and I'll explain it in greater detail
The popular vote is the number of votes cast for each candidate
The electoral vote is the number of electors pledged to support that candidate at a special election held in December
