Question Dear Robert
I am an ESL teacher, I have done my BA in 1978 from Karachi University, Pakistan. I have been staying in Malaysia since 1996 and recently got my PR Canada. I want to become a Librarian, but the problem is I don't want to spend two more years doing MLS? What should I do, do I have any chance of getting a job in any libraries?
Answer Without the MLS, you cannot get a job as a professional librarian. However, you could work as a library assistant in either a public library or an academic library. The pay will not be great. However, you may be able to find a job where you can advance somewhat without needing to get the degree. My suggestion is to visit the website of the American Library Association (www.ala.org) for more information on options for non-librarians.
