Question
What advice to you have for someone who has an ALA-accredited masters'
degree in library & information science? The graduate level courses
concentrated on adult services and generalized special libraries. In addition,
the person has a professional license for Pre-K through 12 library media
services in schools. The person has primarily worked in public schools, but is
looking for other options. Would this person have to take more classes? How
would this person begin a mid-career move?

Answer
One idea is for you to go to work for one of the book vendors like Baker & Taylor as a collection management specialist in children's literature. Another is to work for one of the library consulting firms as an expert in children's services. Another option is to seek a position as the manager of adult services in another public library. If you write back with some additional information as to what direction you really would like to go, perhaps I can give you some more focused ideas. Why do you wish to leave the public library environment? Have you considered being a consultant to school systems on managing and perfecting their media services?
