AboutEileen J. Tell Expertise I can help inform and educate people about long term care insurance and whether it is a product they should be considering. I can help them evaluate different policies or answer basic questions about long term care needs and costs. I have over 15 years experience developing and evaluating long term care insurance products and services and have worked with most of the leading companies in the field. I do not receive any commissions or fees from any companies, so my views are independent and neutral.
While going through some important papers today, I realized that I cannot find the actual signed Long Term Care Policy. I have receipts for the years 1999 through 2008, validating my payments, and I know, of course, the policy number, and also that John Hancock, while not the original company that I signed with, had taken over the policy.
Can you advise me as to what I should do? Any suggestions that you make will really be most helpful. Thank you so much.

Answer If John Hancock took it over, then it was most likely a policy with Time Insurance. If you are still in touchw ith the agent that sold you the policy, or know how to reach him/her, they should be able to tell you how to get a new copy.
Otherwise, you can call John Hancock's customer service number (most likely listed on their website) and ask how you can get a new copy of your policy. These types of requests are very routine and they should be glad to help you.
If you have any trouble finding the right number to call, let me know and I will try to help you. They are based in Boston in case you use directory assistance, or you can google their website and look for contact phone numbers there.
If your receipts mention the policy number, that would help them find the right form to send you but they should be able to search just by your name and possibly social security number and get you a new copy of the policy.
