Life & Health Insurance - taking insurance

Expert: John (J.R.) McCollough - 6/4/2009

Question
I am a nutritionist professional. I do counseling one on one with individuals. I currently do not take insurance. I have a woman who is desperate to see me, and said her insurance would cover 100% of her visits with me. She is only able to see me if her insurance can cover it. I would like to see her, but I don't accept insurance at this time. The school I went through would need to approve it and has not yet. Do I have options? Can the insurance provider preimburse her? Are there any other options?

Answer
Hi Kristy,
I don't see how your school has any right in deciding what type of insurance companies you choose to participate with.  If you are restricted and this woman is in need of your service you should work out a payment arrangement with her. There is no need to let a lack of insurance options hinder her from getting the help she needs.

J.R.
