Question I am due with my third baby in September and I am losing my job in August but I have our families health coverage through my job. My family will be on Cobra for atleast 6 months but my question is while the new baby be covered under it once it is born or do we have to get health insurance for him?
Answer Hello Holly:
The newborn is covered the minute he or she is born. (Congratulations by the way!)
You may need to notify the insurance company within 30 days of birth that you want to add the child to the plan, but often the insurance company will send you something in the mail asking what your intention is. It is your responsibility to add the baby though, not theirs, so don't forget. It wouldn't hurt to ask your insurance company now what their procedure is.
