Question My mother tried to wake up my grandmother 3 weeks ago and she had passed. My mom seems to have Dementia but I think it is the traumatic experience that has caused this. Thoughts?
Answer Hi Lynda and thanks for writing,
Dementia is a slow, progressive disease and does not suddenly occur so I doubt your Mother has Dementia. She may have confusion or delusions due to treatable causes (simple dehydration or medications could cause them). Your Mother may e taking some medications for anxiety caused by the shock of finding her Mother expired or she may not be taking proper care of herself.
I would advise you talk to her first about your concerns and ask her if she’s eating and drinking normally or taking any new medications which may be causing temporary confusion. If it doesn’t clear up then you should call her doctor and report your observations so s/he can investigate.
