Life Support Issues - Cadaver Donation, specified institution

Question
I have been part of The Harvard Nurses' Study since its inception. I'd like my cadaver to go for their purposes or to Columbia Pres. Hosp.,College Of Physicians and Surgeons. (I am a graduate from P.H. School of Nursing, and Teachers College, Columbia) Is there any way to prearrange for these institutions, in that order, to have access to my cadaver? Apparently the initial contacts I tried to make to do so went to inappropriate individuals who did not follow thru to provide full information. Can you advise me? Do I need to go through one of the intermediary agencies?( I  have a feeling that they charge the end-line medical facility for the donation.)  My family are aware of my plans with full understanding and agreement.Thank you for your services to this cause. Mrs. M.L. Earthy

Answer
Hi Marilyn and thanks for writing,

I would contact the medical school as they no doubt have forms they use for people who donate their brains or bodies to the medical school for research.  Maybe contact the local Alzheimer’s Society as I know many Alzheimer patients sign release forms so their brains can be used by the medical schools for important research (Alzheimer’ can only e identified post mortem).

Good for you for your ongoing support of medical research,
Wishing you all the best,

Margot
