Question
what is the ratio of a chandelier size compared to the size of the dining table?  How many inches should the chandelier be hung above the table?

Answer
Part1. the chandelier should be at least 1/2 the WIDTH of the table.
Part2. the chandelier should be approximately 24 to 30 inches above the table top. It could be higher and wider if the room is very tall.
My dining room is 18ft tall and my chandelier is 6ft above the floor and almost 2/3 the width.
this is just to give you an idea of how to scale the total room.
