Lincoln/Mercury Repair - 1993 Mercury Villager door/alarm remote reprogramming

Expert: Dinger - 12/12/2006

Question
Hello,  I have a 1993 Mercury Villager with a 2 button door/alarm remote that needs reprogramming. The two buttons are "A" and "D".  It says "Ford" on the back of the remote.   How do I reprogram the remote?  I had it reprogrammed several years ago at a dealer and I remember they did something with the ignition and the door courtesy light switch or the ceiling courtesy light switch.  Please help.

Thanks and best regards,

Stephen

Answer
HI Stephen,

Wanted to post this as info comes through to me. The dealer will have to program the key fob. They use a computer and hook into to your data connector. It's call the STAR system. I was also told that your keyless system is a dealer install not a factory install. There is no mention of a wireless remote in the factory books, according to Ford.
