Question
we just bought a 1995 town car and it has stopped running, we believe the anti theft device has mesed up the lights for the anti theft device keep blinking the car will not start and it keeps running the battery dead because the lights blink all the time we have tried to locate the device to remove it and can not find it if you could tell us where it is located it would be great thank you

Answer
HI Ronda,

I found this TSB about the alarm system. Also, you can not remove a factory alarm system. The ECU needs it to run the car. The shut off should be by unlocking, with the key, the driver door.

ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM - UNINTENTIONAL AND/OR INTERMITTENT ACTIVATION - VEHICLES BUILT FROM 5/1/95 THROUGH 12/22/95

LINCOLN-MERCURY:
1995-96 TOWN CAR

ISSUE:
The anti-theft alarm may activate unintentionally and/or intermittently. This may be caused by the anti-theft lever on the decklid lock cylinder not touching the decklid which will simulate a decklid lock cylinder knock out" condition.

ACTION:
Reposition the anti-theft lever on the decklid lock cylinder so it comes in contact with the decklid. This will reduce the possibility of unintentional and/or intermittent activation. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

1. Remove the decklid lock cylinder.

2. Using pliers, bend the anti-theft lever so that it engages the decklid sheet metal. Refer to Figure 1.

3. Reinstall the decklid lock cylinder.
