Lincoln/Mercury Repair - 2000 mercury grand marquis

Question
ok thank you,,, I know it's not an injector because the freq is to high and it's not the vent line going to the valve cover because I took it loose and the rigid plastic lines, the ones able to transmit the noise, I cant pinch to see if it changes. I'll try a small rubber splice on the end of them that I can pinch.

-----Question-----
it has a new air filter,,,, and when you pop open the box that contains the air filter is when the sound gets very loud and no air is passing through the filter at that time anyway. It appears to me to be a noise thats starting off in a small tube and amplifying as it goes from the small tube to the next larger tube until it gets to the large plastic cold air intake tube that goes from the filter compartment to the engine cold air intake. You know like a trumpet works.

-----Question-----
I have a 2000 mercury grand marquis making some kind of harmonic trumpeting sound out the cold air intake when the engine is cold and at an idle. The noise is loud with the air filter compartment closed but when i pop the latches on it and lift the top up the noise amplifies like someone playing a trumpet. I can rev the engine a lil and it will go away for a while, put it in gear and it comes back, the sound mainly only happens when the engine is cold.

Thanks in advance to any help

Hi Leo,

Whens the last time you changed that air filter? Now would be good... Happy Holidays!
-----Answer-----
If I could see it, I could tell ya... But in this medium I just don't know. You will have to take it to someone. I never heard of such a thing. Wish I could help.

Answer
This is a small hose to the air filter box? I misunderstood. I will check with the boys at the shop in the AM and see what that is. I think it has to do with the EGR but that would throw a code and turn on the check engine light. I will get back to you.
