Expert: Dinger Date: 12/3/2006 Subject: Merc. Sable Caliper will not release
Question I have a 1992 Merc. Sable, and after replacing the rear caliper on the drivers side, the caliper will not release pressure from rotor... I have been told that it was the master cylinder, and also that the distribution valve is defective, and also that I have a plugged line.... Have you ever run into a similar problem????? the passenger rear appears to be operating correctly as well as both front calipers.... It has been to 3 different shops, and no one has an answer for me.... caliper has been replaced 3 times now with the same results.. Lines have been bleed several times also.... any help would be appreciated
Answer Hi Rod,
If you have replaced it three times, then that ain't it! You can replace the distribution valve and the line from it to the caliper easy enough. That would be my thought. If the others are working correctly then it is isolated to just the one. BEFORE you do that, check the e-brake cable. Salt and corrosion play havoc with that stuff. Make sure the cable is loose and not pulled tight. Well, at least so that it has some play. We even whack them with a hammer sometimes to loosen them up.
