my 2001 Mercury sable had a high idle. i change the speed control idle and the Throttle position vavle that was next to it.that did not work. i also look for vacuum Leaks there were none. The Problem was the PVC Vavle Was Bad. it was Stuck open. i should have known that earlier, when i kept being low on oil, every few days. on my overhead cam. the pcv is under the intake. you can not see it until you take the intake cover off. you can see the hose running to it,but not the vavle itself. when you get to the vavle, you have to twist it then pull it out. But that was the problem. car running excellent now.
