About Ted Nesbitt
Expertise
I am willing to assist anyone in the interpretation of the literature of any genre, but my expertise is in American literature. My masters thesis is an analysis of the heroic novels of William Faulkner. I am also adept in English literature, particularly Shakespeare and the romantic poets. I will not edit or revise lengthy papers. Nor will I do homework.

Experience
I taught advanced placement English in a preparatory school and am now a reference librarian at a medium-sized public college. I have been a volunteer at the grammar and writing, poetry, etymology and politics sections of allexperts for more than four years.

Literature - Report Referencing

Expert: Ted Nesbitt - 1/5/2009

Question
Hello Mr.Nesbitt,
I'm writing a report and for the first time (ever) I'm having to make references to different online information that I find in relation the to topic I'm researching. I’ve  never done referencing before and I was wondering if you could show me how to make a reference to an online pdf, website or article.

Thanks for your time.

Answer
Dear Ciaran:

Your question is not very clear.  Do you mean that you have written a research paper and you must cite your sources?  If that is the case, what style manual must you follow?  Is it the Modern Language Association, the American Psychological Association, the Chicago Manual, or some other guide -- they all differ.

I have prepared a list of very reliable sources that show you how to cite references.  Here is my website:

<http://docs.google.com/Doc?id=dfjc3bzj_18gzp3d6f6>

I suggest that you bookmark this site on your computer . . . for future reference.

Every style manual is listed there, and there are examples given for all resources that you have found "electronically."  In other words, these resources are from the internet, either from a website, a journal article, or some other source that you have found, using your computer.

If you have citations to PRINTED resources, you need to go to your library and consult the appropriate manual for the style guide you are supposed to follow.

If you have further questions, get back to me, and I will try to help you.

Ted Nesbitt

P. S.  You may have to copy and paste my website into your browser.  Sometimes at Allexperts, the hyperlink does not work!  [And no one can tell me why.]
