My passion is for literature (English and American), creative writing, and artistic historical periods. I`ve been teaching since 1992 and love it. Do I know it all? No! I`m a professional student. The best way to learn is to teach!

Answer
Hi Lisa,

What works for one teacher, does not necessarily apply to another. Even the expectations of a teacher differs from class to class. You need to sit down with your teachers privately and go over their expectations so that it is clear. You should ask for their rubrics so you fully understand how they are grading you. If they cannot tell you how you are being graded and how you can improve, you should speak to their supervisors.

I can't tell you what I expect from a student analyzing Shakespeare because it depends on the course being taught, the specific assignment given, and the needs of the student. A student taking Advanced Placement English is held to a higher standard than a student in my 10th grade English class. If a student is an English Language Learner or has special needs, that too makes a difference.

So again, you have to have a one-on-one conversation with your instructors; you should have very clear questions about what their expectations are how you are graded. If you are not satisfied with their answers, you should have your parent/guardian intervene by speaking to your teachers and/or their supervisor.
