First let me say that I was not raised to save money. My parents moto was spend it all because you might not be here tomorrow. My moto has been spend it and worry about it later. Let me first make clear I am not a shop a holic. I buy from salvage stores and know how to buy things for cheap. I have even started using coupons. Our problem is when we get more money in we blow it and we dont know on what! Our tax money is already gone and we are living pay check to paycheck. I am unable to work at the ripe old age of 29! Yes that is right 29 and I have been married for over 13 years and have 2 boys 11 and 12. My problem is my body doesnt agree with my ming on my age:) I have had so many surgeries to my back and shoulder and other ones that is cost alot for my medicine and it just gets hard. Like in two weeks I have to have a hystarectomy because I have 4 tumors! I have no idea where we are going to get the $1000 deductible from. I just want to know how to save money so we are not in bondage anymore. Oh and let me add that we dont use credit cards just debit. And we only have one car we pay for and my husband has a company car.PLease help anyway you can

Answer Dear Liz,
It is a matter of financial discipline. It sounds like you have many thrifty ways, already. From what you tell me, the problem seems to be, even though you are frugal in some areas, money just "runs through your fingers . . ." Sit down and make a budget. Be honest with yourselves, don't underestimate your expenses. Add savings to your plan. Take the money out of your hands and put it in some sort of savings plan. Not a huge amount at a time, but a steady regular amount. That is the real key to budgeting. Start simple and aim for something you can attain and stick with it. If you need help organizing, I'll be glad to help you prioritize. I think it's great that you don't have credit cards. Some people have problems with debit cards in that the expenses accumulate faster than they are recorded. My husband and I use checks and cash, it's easier to keep track of.
I wish you well and I hope you don't continue to face surgeries. It seems once surgeries and continual medication begins, it just snowballs with more and more health issues.
Kind Regards,
Kindred
