Living on a Budget, Saving Money - Can we afford it???

Expert: Julie Zorgo - 2/10/2009

Question
Dear Julie,

I'm thinking of proposing to my GF, but I need some feedback on whether or not we are financially ready. We live in Ventura County, California. I'm 20 and make $23 an hour as an ARC welder, while she's 19 and makes $11.50 an hour as a software receiving supervisor in an electronics store. Between the two of us we make about $4,400 a month. Would we be able to survive? Would it be too tight for us money-wise to really make it worthwhile??? I'd really appreciate some feedback.

Thank you.

From,
Danny

Answer
Hello! I'm not entirely sure if you can afford it. It really depends on what you are spending per month. The best recommendation I can give you is to set up a budget, and figure out what you are spending so that you can see if $4400 is enough to live on. Here is a useful link for you with articles and tools for making a budget.

Thank you,
Julie
