AboutJeannine Expertise I can offer emotional support to those suffering from visual impairments--specifically those dealing with retina detachments and cataracts. I am legally blind since birth and have recently gone through many retina detachment surgeries and have had cataracts. I can share with you my experiences, and offer you practical solutions to dealing with retina detachments which I have learned over the past few months. I am still waiting to see if my last detachment surgery is successful, so I am experiencing this along with you and would be more than happy to simply be a shoulder to cry on, if needed.
I am also willing to discuss living with visual impairments...and how it effects daily life, relationships, careers, etc.
Experience I have been legally blind since birth. Just recently had a cataract surgery that lead to four retina detachment surgeries. I have had both silicon oil and PFO in my eye, and have also been through the "head down" positioning that often follows a detachment. I am facing another cataract surgery for the other eye. I have a great deal of experience when it comes to practical solutions for living with this problem. I also know what it is to live day in and day out with a disability, and have learned how to handle it's effect on relationships(romantic and otherwise).
Question Is it possible to go from partial blindness where you can just distinguish dark and light shapes that you mentioned in one of your previous responses, to the temporary long-term blindness where you normally have very good vision but have continuous bouts of temporary blindness?
Answer Jarita,
I'm confused about the wording of your question. It sounds like you are saying you have temporary vision loss, in an eye that usually sees well, but also suffers from bouts of vision loss. This is unclear to me.
What I will tell you, is anytime you suffer from any kind of vision loss, whether you have a preexisting eye condition or not, you SHOULD DEFINITELY go to see your eye doctor.
