Subject: broken knob lock
Question My daughter pushed the knob lock button and closed the door to our guest room. I have tried to release the lock by insertin a paper clip, a wire coat hanger, and a toothpick into the hole. This method has worked lots of times before on other lock, but has not worked this time. It feels like the lock mechanism inside the knob may be jammed. Any ideas on how to get this door unlocked would be greatly appreciated!
Answer Maureen,
some of the privacy locks don't have a mechanism that "pushes" to release, they turn to release. If you have tried the coat hanger wire and couldn't push the release mechanism, try a small screw driver (slotted style). You should also be able to look in the small hole with a flashlight to see the slot.
Put the screw driver in, engage the notch and turnk, the lock hopefully will release.
If not, you may have to have a locksmith check it out.
Good luck,
andy
