Locksmithing - Sentry 3 number combination Floor Safe

Expert: Terry Andreasen (Andy) - 2/9/2009

Question
I have not opened the safe in quite some time.  I opened it last night and now the dial is quite stiff and very hard to turn.  I'm afraid to close it again for fear that next time the dial will be frozen up.  Any ideas how to remedy this?  Thank you in advance for your help.

Answer
Renee,

Sentry safes are very subject to rust problems.  I wouldn't suggest shutting and locking the safe until it has been serviced, the rust removed, and new lubricant installed.

If it isn't working correctly, it will not get better until it has been checked and serviced.

If you can't perform this work yourself, you may have to take the safe to a safe company or locksmith to have it serviced.  If it is to large or heavy for you to take to them, you may have to make arrangements for the safe man to come to you.

Just remember that a locked up safe that won't open, can be expensive to open and repair.

Andy
