Locksmithing/Meilink Safe

I just got an older Meilink safe with no combination.  It is a model 11, serial # 72-19612.  How can I tell if it has a 3 or 4 number combination?  Is there an easy way to open it with out the combination?  I can not find anything online about the model 11.  If I can some how figure out the combination what is the proper sequence to open the safe?  If needed I can send a pic of the safe.

All of the standard locks used on Meilink safes were three wheel locks, though on the higher security safes, a four wheel lock could have been an option.

The dialing sequence is:

4 times left to the first number,
3 times right to the second number,
2 times left to the third number,
1 time right until the dial stops (should be around 90).

Note:  Left is counter clockwise, Right is clockwise.   DO NOT count the revolutions of the dial, count the individual number as it arrives at the 12 o'clock index mark.

Chances are the reason that you can't find anything about your safe is that it is a 1972 series safe.   As far as opening the safe, you options are either use the combination - if you don't know it, then you can try all of the 1,000,000 possible combinations available on the lock, or you can have a safe technician from a local safe company open the safe for you.

NOTE:  I never recommend using locksmiths for safe work, as they generally don't have the training, knowledge or tools and can cause excessive damage.

If you don't have a local safe company, let me know where you are located (zipcode), and I'll see who I might know in your area.

hope this helps,
