Locksmithing/safe lock

Can you tell me maker and approx. age of this lock.It has number 730 stamped on end of bolt. That is the only marking I can find.

The lock appears to be a Sargent & Greenleaf lock.   S&G made a slightly smaller version of this same lock, the model 6700, which had a patent date of May 22, 1906, which was a three wheel version and slightly smaller.
The lock utilized a gravity drop lever, and was basically a "zero" change type lock.   The lever arm on the casing cover was engaged by the change key and would block the lever during combination changing - notice the small "hook" next to the lever arm pivot bolt.

This lock would appear to be a larger version, possibly used on larger safes or vault doors, having 4 wheels as opposed to the series 6700 having 3 wheels.   Possibly a series 6800 or precursor for the 6805 series lock which had the arm attached to the first wheel, and similarly would act to block the lever from entering the drive wheel gate during combination changing.

I would recommend your contacting either Sargent & Greenleaf or the Harry C. Miller lock collection to find out more about this particular lock and/or dates of manufacture.   The factory "may or may not" be of any help.   Generally manufacturers are ONLY interested in what they are manufacturing TODAY and/or TOMORROW, and do not care about a lock which may have been manufactured 100 years ago - so don't expect a lot of help from them - hopefully they will be able to assist you.    The lock museum may be of more assistance.
