Locksmithing/safe manufactures fire file cabinet

We have a old Safe Manufactures National Association fire file cabinet which has locked and the key doesn't open it. The top cabinet's push down to open handle is very loss. The Numbers on the front label of the cabinet are F2-ND, 4Y447394, 7410. Would you have any ideas on how to open this locked cabinet or some direction on who to call. Thank you for your time. Hi Cindy,

No you don't!   Safe Manufacturers National Association (SMNA) was a testing agency ONLY and NOR a manufacturer.
The Specification "F2-ND) indicates that this is a "Fire insulated container".   The label should also have a "classification" of either "E" or "D", which would indicate "E = 1/2 hour of fire resistance" or "D = 1 hour of fire resistance".

NOTE:   As this container is over 50 years old, it does not meet ANY current standards for fire resistance.

Mechanical problems require hands on diagnostics and repairs, which means that you will need to have a safe technician from a local safe company take a look at it, to determine what the problem actually is, and to open it and possibly repair it.   As this container is over 50 years old, parts are probably NOT going to be available, so while they will probably get it open, it may not be repairable.

If you don't have a local safe company (phone book under "safes & vaults"), let me know where you are located (zipcode) and I'll see who I know nearby.
