Re-1800s JMDavidsons Fire King/E Corning safe (posted 2013)

I came across this post and was wondering if there was any progress with opening the safe. We have one exactly the same...and no key. The half moon key which was spoken about in the other post, sits into the slot behind the handle...and obviously pushes in the pins(5)within the locking mechanism...

My question is...can we get this key from somewhere?
It is a very cool looking safe...

Hi Randall,

I really like these old Davidson's "Fire King" safes.    They were only made between about 1840 to 1860ish.

As far as making keys for them - good luck.   There are ONLY about 1/2 dozen guys in the country that have the capability of making the key - and they would need to have a working key and the lock available to make it.

Sorry, but keys from the manufacturer have NOT been available in about 150 years!

If you don't currently have a key, then it could be very expensive to have one made.    If you currently have one, you should be able to get it duplicated at any machine shop.     Most locksmiths would just give you a dull look if you bring it in.

If your safe is locked up and you have no key, again it will be expensive to have it opened and a key made.    Sorry I wish the answer was better.

Where are you and the safe located.
