Locksmithing/Shaw Walker fire file

I am a dealer and as such I have bought and sold many file cabinets of all kinds and sizes, both regular and fire proof. Recently I bought 2 used Shaw Walker 4 drawe vert. Legal fire files. They are a matched pair. One has the lock and key and the other is missing the lock completely. I have always been able to remove the lock core but in this case I haven't had any such luck. I want to buy 2 new locks that are matched so both cabinets will be keyed alike, as I have both sold when I get this done. Any suggestions on how to get the lock out without drilling and destroying it. It is a Yale lock. Thanks and look forward to hearing from you. JH

Hi Jackie,

sorry I'm not going to be much help - but I do very little locksmith work - which this would be.    I strictly work on safes & vaults.

My recommendation would be to contact a local locksmith company to have them open the lock and either make keys for it or to replace it.

Note:   Older Yale locks may not be available any longer, and current model CompX/National locks may not be retrofitable.

Many of the Yale locks had codes on their face.   If your lock has one, you may be able to get a key to operate it, and once open, you can remove it from the container.

Again as far as replacement locks, you would have to match the one that you have, against possible available replacement locks - your local locksmith company (brick & mortar type store) would be your best place to look for these locks.

Sorry I can't be of more help.
